What is my name?

My name is Arūnas. This is a Lithuanian masculine given name without any meaning. It may be that the names as Aaron in Israel, Hārūn in Iran, and Aruna in India are the equivalent of the Lithuanian name Arūnas. The Lithuanian letter ū is a separate letter but is given the same position in collation as the unaccented u; it marks a long vowel [u:].

Where am I from?

I was born in Lithuania, a country in Northern Europe. I am proud to be Lithuanian as my country is a member of the European Union, eurozone, Schengen Agreement, NATO, OECD, and it has a very high Human Development Index, a very high standard of living and performs favorably in measurements of civil liberties, press freedom, internet freedom, democratic governance, and peacefulness.

Lithuania has the 10th most powerful passport in the world, so I have visa-free or visa on arrival access to 181 countries and territories.

Why I do not have accounts on “popular” social media websites?

I prefer communication with my friends in reality and do not need to live in an online world with thousands of “friends” on social networks. In general, the online world is insecure because a person can present himself/herself in it not at all as he/she really is. I know people who are frustrated with questionable and superficial online relationships. To me, the real world is much more beautiful and interesting.

What are my hobbies?

Travel (if it is a hobby), photography (in past it was my job), nature, historic and modern architecture, long 20 km / 12 mi walking (it is also the best physical activity), music (lounge, smooth jazz, electro-pop), movies (historical, horror, drama) and laziness (freedom to do nothing!).

What is the most memorable country I have visited?

Portugal. It was an arduous but very interesting and cognitively rich 600 km / 373 mi long multi-month pilgrimage through the country: from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

What is my most interesting travel experience?

I lived for six months in one of the caves in Tenerife, a small African island that belongs to the Kingdom of Spain. Every morning I fed feral cats, during the days I walked around the island or socialized with Tenerife’s hippies, in the evenings I swam in the Atlantic Ocean and slept at nights in my cave with local lizards. I thank Life for giving me such the strangest, craziest, most exciting, most relaxing, and most wonderful time in my life!
