The Spanish city of Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria Island, the largest city of the Canary Islands, and the ninth-largest city in Spain.
Las Palmas lies in the northeastern part of the island, about 150 kilometers (93 miles) off the Moroccan coast in the North Atlantic Ocean. According to a study carried out by Syracuse University (USA), the city enjoys the best climate in the world.
Las Palmas was founded in 1478 by Juan Rejón, an Aragonese captain in the service of the Castilian navy.

Planning to travel to Gran Canaria soon? Here are some pictures of Las Palmas streets from my walks through the city at night.
The town is a sister of San Antonio, Texas, in the US, which was established by Canary Islanders in the 18th century.
